The Grace Notes Music Foundation presented a music education program at the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Camp on Saturday, July 16, 2016. The presentation for twelve students and six adults included an introduction to the rhythm pyramid, a music history lesson about the blues and culminated with the campers performing the 12 bar blues. This project was done in cooperation with the Jupiter Academy of Music and the Martin Luther King Coordinating Committee.

Last week, 13 Urban Youth Impact's Science Meets Art (SMART) instrumentalists had the opportunity to attend a Black Violin concert. Black Violin is a classical crossover duo combining hip hop with classical music. Fort Lauderdale natives, Kevin Sylvester on violin and Wilner Baptiste on viola encouraged students with stories of how their instruments paved the way for full paid scholarships to attend Florida International University and Florida State University. The duo also shared how they used their instruments to "break stereotypes" in their own words and ways.

One of the adorable performers at the Carousel Stage was Sammy Hayden (Mike Hayden and Stacy Siehien Hayden's little girl). Sammy is pictured here playing the beautiful Ali piano! The piano was on loan from Kretzer Piano at the Grace Notes Music Foundation's Annual Carousel Concert-Thon at Downtown at the Gardens. It was created originally for Kretzer Piano's "Keys to the City" project.
The Alice in Wonderland theme was a delightful addition to the Carousel Stage at the family-friendly Carousel Concert-Thon. The talented artist Amanda Turner did a great job on the painting of the piano. Rick Moir turned it into a digital piano after all the parts that were water damaged when the piano was displayed outdoors. All the damaged parts were removed and now it will never need tuning! Thank you to Kretzer Piano for sharing it with us for the day!
